Motivational Monday!

Would you like to be happier, less stressed, more creative, and more motivated? Me, too! Apparently, there is a mathematical formula for us to follow. Researcher Barbara Fredrickson has studied the general effects of positivity and found that there is a tipping point for our positive moods and mental states.

When our moods are positive 3X more than they are negative, we reach a tipping point where we experience an “upward spiral” of positivity. So how do we proactively focus on creating a 3:1 ratio—should we raise the positive or reduce the negative or both? The answer is yes.

Knowing about the positivity ratio is, in itself, empowering. Additionally, Fredrickson’s suggests creating a plan. Plans give us a sense of control. We can’t always control our circumstances but we can control how we respond. The plan helps us have a sense of both options and resources. Target that upward spiral. The math is simple, it’s facing this stressor that is the hard part. Creating a plan will feel so good. Just do it.

With Gratitude,
Beth
