“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” Anais Nin
Last night, I attended our annual fundraiser for UrbanPromise Trenton. When I arrived, I met some young volunteers from The College of New Jersey. They were absolutely delightful. I discovered a few of them were seniors so I asked about their majors and if they had their first job lined up yet.
Two of the volunteers said they were finance majors so I told them I would take a moment to introduce them to my husband who is in the field. Unfortunately, I got distracted with guests and my own volunteer work and I never circled back.
At about 10:30pm, with the event over and only staff remaining, one of the young men came over to Doug and me and reminded me of my previous offer 5 hours before. I can’t even imagine how much courage that took! He spoke with Doug about the market and how the yield curve had recently inverted. He was well spoken and well read, but mostly he was BRAVE! If I had an opening in finance, I’d hire him in a second—you can’t teach brave. That was a gutsy move and it’s going to pay off. His life definitely expanded last night! Now it’s your turn.
With Gratitude,
Beth
