Friday’s Quote

“There is more hunger for love and appreciation in this world than there is for bread.” Saint Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa)

Today’s quote offers us the opportunity to view it from two different perspectives. Of course, we all love to be loved and appreciated—it kind of goes without saying, right? We might not consciously think about it or expect it, but when it’s missing, we know it. Feeling unappreciated can evoke some very strong negative emotions and, as a result, it often causes us to change our behavior.

If we can recall a time that we felt unappreciated, then we can do a better job of appreciating others, right? Feeling unappreciated elicits in me a deep sense of hurt. What emotion does it evoke in you? Now, it’s time to look around us—who have we overlooked? Who needs to hear how much we appreciate them? Who needs to be reminded of how much they are loved?

Dale Carnegie once said, “People work for money but go the extra mile for recognition, praise, and rewards.” These quotes about love and appreciation are equally applicable at work as well as at home. Most people will wonder “How did I do?” and recognition and appreciation are an abundant resource that eliminates any and all doubt.

Have a Great Weekend,
Beth
