Doug and I spent most of Saturday and Sunday weeding. We had been away almost every weekend since the first of June so the weeds had taken complete advantage of our absence and began to aggressively proliferate throughout the gardens. Neither of of us were looking forward to this task, but it had to be done.
Here is the thing about weeds, they not only spread quickly but they dig in deeply with strong roots and are difficult to remove. They are completely unwanted yet seem to thrive in my garden. The weeds are competing with the flowers for water, sunlight, space and nutrients so they make it harder for the plants I love to coexist with the weeds.
We all have weeds in our life too. Life weeds aren’t always as visible but they are no less damaging. They are all of the unwanted things that creep into our lives and, before we know it, have choked the life out of the things that actually do matter. Let me name a few: debt, toxic people, Netflix, Facebook, saying ‘yes’ when we mean ‘no’, too much stuff, etc.
Is it time to weed your garden? My hands still hurt from the weekend but it was incredibly cathartic as well as rewarding. I can really enjoy the flowers now. What about you? Are the weeds making it really hard for you to enjoy the flowers? It’s time. Go weed.
With Gratitude,
Beth
