Motivational Monday!

Do you ever hit the snooze button on your alarm clock? We all have surely succumb to this convenient temptation at some point in our life. What if you discovered it is one of the worst things you could do to yourself physically and emotionally but also metaphorically.

Rafael Pelayo, MD, a sleep specialist at the Stanford University Sleep Medicine Center explains that the body begins to prepare to wake up about 2 hours before it is actually ready to wake up. When we hit the snooze button the body thinks it’s a false alarm and settles back in for a deep sleep only to be taken by surprise 9 minutes later which results in us feeling even more tired. The more we hit snooze, the more confused our body and brain get.

Pelayo explains why the snooze button makes us tired and grumpy, but there is a bigger drawback. Metaphorically, the snooze button is so much worse. Allowing a snooze button in our life at all is putting off the inevitable. I want us to fight for our productivity. Attack the day with excitement and anticipation. Each day is filled with decisions — let the first decision of our day be a GREAT one. Never hit snooze!

With Gratitude,
Beth
