Do you remember Newton’s Cradle? This popular toy landed on the desks of many executives back in the 80’s. It models Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion which is, ‘for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.’
If this toy was in front of you right now, what would you do? Wouldn’t you feel compelled to set the pendulum in motion? I know I would! Very few of us would prefer to let this toy remain on the desk untouched. It’s true, an object at rest will stay at rest—but where is the fun in that? I want to see the pendulum in full swing! Don’t you?
I believe we all should have Newton’s Cradle on our desks again as a huge reminder that the pendulum is us! We can choose to be the object at rest and we will remain at rest. But the moment we get just one of those spheres moving, the whole pendulum starts moving. If we want the pendulum to move, we need to set it in motion. And please take note, “busy” is not what we are talking about here. What exactly do you want to set in motion right now? Take the first step! Pull one sphere back and release it! Come on, you can do this!
With Gratitude,
Beth
