“Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.” ~ Mason Cooley
I doubt Cooley knew how poignant his words would be in 2020. Reading was incredibly important before this global pandemic but, one could argue, now it’s more important than ever. Watching the news is not going to help allay our fears or reduce our sense of panic—no, quite the opposite. But reading can take us to another place entirely.
“Maybe this is why we read, and in moments of darkness we return to books: to find words for what we already know.” ~ Alberto Manguel
In dark times, we have the freedom and the power to choose that which will bring us the brilliance of a bright light. Choosing what we read right now is critically important to the well-being of our psyche. So I have two questions for you: What are you reading? And how much time are you dedicating to this healthy pastime?
“She reads books as one would breathe air, to fill up and live.” Annie Dillard
Currently, I am reading 4 books that I intentionally chose to keep me upbeat and positive. You can see three of them below (you knew The Wake Up Call had to be one of them – positive, bite-sized posts, that anchor me for the day). The fourth is from Audible and it is Love Does by Bob Goff. His books are always uplifting and funny. If you don’t have a good book that is a beacon of light in your life right now, then head to Amazon.com. It’s important!
“We read to know that we are not alone.” C. S. Lewis

Beth, this post is a good reminder to get started on reading a new book. Thanks.
On a sillier note: “Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.”
(attributed to Groucho Marx, Jim Brewer, and others).
LOL, Bill!! Thank you. And yes get reading, we finally have the time! I hope you and yours are safe, healthy, and well! All the best, Beth
