Do The Right Thing

If you are familiar with Jim Rohn, then you may have heard this story before. Once, when he was leaving a hotel room, he noticed he had left the light on. He could have ignored it, as he wasn’t paying for the electricity during his overnight stay, but he didn’t. He explained that he felt drawn back to the room because of a sense of responsibility. “I went back into the hotel room to turn the light off because it was the right thing to do.”

During this time of being in our homes essentially 24/7, maybe it’s the perfect time to exercise doing something simply because it’s the right thing to do. You may think this is about turning off lights or saving energy, but it’s more than that. Once we hear our mind stop us as we are leaving a room with the short phrase, “because it’s the right thing to do,” it will begin to show up in other parts of our life as well. And then we will become a person who does the right thing because its the right thing to do.

Maybe you already are that person, but ask yourself, “Am I that person with my home, my family, my job, my colleagues, the environment, racism, etc. Our action steps today include: (1) who do I need to call because it’s the right thing to do, (2) what do I need to do at work because it’s the right thing to do, and (3) what do I need to start doing at home because it’s the right thing to do? Now go be that person—because it’s the right thing to do! You might not get a pat on the back, but the beneficiary will definitely be you.

With Gratitude,
Beth
