Doug and I spent this past weekend bringing one of our daughters back to college. We have two more children who will be heading off to college, as well, over the next week or so. It’s that time of year again. Late August when many things are coming to an end while others are just beginning. This is when I like to ask, “What’s your plan?”
If you haven’t yet sat down to plan out the last quarter of this year, now is the time. Auto pilot is not a plan. Hope is not a plan. Hard work and dedication really aren’t a plan either, although I guess it’s better than autopilot and hope. This year, more than ever, is when a plan is going to be crucial for our success. And if you’re one fo those, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” kind of people, I’d argue that Kodak and Blackberry would like you to rethink that strategy.
What do you want to be different by the end of this year? Is it work? Is it the trajectory of your career? Is it your love-life? Is it your situation? Is it your home or your location? Is it your weight or your health? Is it your finances? Whatever it is, now is the time to make a plan, because here’s the tea: time stands still for no one. If we want something to be different in our lives, we need to take action NOW! And when December rolls around, as it always does, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
“Those who make the worst use of their time are the first to complain of its brevity.” – Jean de La Bruyère
