Do you remember when you were little, maybe 2nd grade? And do you remember racing people everywhere? We said things like, “I’ll race you to the tree,” or “I’ll race you to the car.” And off we went, running as fast as we could so we would win. But have you ever been so far behind in a race that you just gave up? You stopped running because, well, what was the point? You knew you had lost. In a real race with a real finish line, it’s more likely we would have finished, if for no other reason then the self-satisfaction that comes from completing what we set out to do even though we did not win.

Fast forward to today. There is no race—yet there certainly seems likes there’s a race going on all around us. And, at times, you may feel like you’re standing still as everyone runs past you. There’s the money race, and the weight race, and the successful race, and relationship race, and the keeping up with the Jones’ race, etc. And some days, do you feel like you’re in 2nd grade again, in a race you can’t win? Now’s the time to remind ourselves, there is no race and —our present circumstances don’t determine where we can go; they merely determine where we start!

Stop looking around you, it’s not helping! It’s not about them, it’s about you. Where do YOU want to go? What do YOU want to do? It’s not a race, but there is a finish line, and that finish line is however long we are blessed to be on this planet. Look at where you are right now and declare, “This is my starting point!” It might not be the best starting point, but if you’re breathing, it’s a darn good starting point! Now decide where you want to go. There is no limit. Make a plan and let’s get started! Pity parties serve no one. We got this!
