Be Nice!

When Doug and I were in Napa Valley a few weeks ago experiencing some wineries and their wine tastings, I noticed something interesting. Everywhere we went, somehow we got more than we asked for. Every winery offered us something that was not suposed to be in our tasting. We got more wine, a special wine, more food—heck, we even got invited to host a wine tasting back in NJ! It was kind of crazy!

As I reflected on these events, I can only surmise that it was because we were fully engaged, truly interested in the whole story, and nice. Nice can be a game-changer. It’s often the special key that unlocks almost any door. All of us have it in our coffers, it’s simply a matter of whether or not we choose to use it. We get clouded by our emotions and forget, or refuse, to consider that nice is always an option—a better option.

It was easy to nice while we were on vacation, but what about now. Who is currently really getting on your last nerve? Who are you struggling with? Could nice be the answer? Think about your emotion, is it anger, bitter, fearful, resentful, or frustrated? Dig deep and see if you can find a way to be nice. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, not even a little bit, but nice softens people. Fighting fire with fire only seems to make matters worse. It takes a big person to choose nice in these circumstances. Will you choose to be that person?

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
