Is This Who I Am?

I have two really good questions we can ask ourselves as we go about our day. The questions are simple but they may very well change how we behave—they certainly have changed how I behave. If you choose to use them, get ready to be a better person.

The questions are simple: “Is this who I am?” and “Is this who I wish to be?” It certainly doesn’t seem like those questions are powerful, but trust me, they are. The other day I was meeting a friend at our local dining club to hear a speaker. I arrived late and I was ravenous. When the waitress informed me that lunch was “sold out,” and all that was available to me was a plain salad, I didn’t receive the news so well (especially since I had made the reservation and placed my lunch order a week earlier). My response to her was an exasperated, “Whatever.” Not my best moment. And immediately I remembered the questions and asked myself, I this who I am or is this who I wish to be? I immediately told myself, “No!”

After the speaker finished, I found the waitress and apologized. I knew I couldn’t take those moments back, but I knew that was not who I am nor who I wish to be. Every day we can create who we want to be. I hope these questions help you create the VERY BEST version of yourself. I am not perfect, but these questions remind me of who I want to ultimately become. Don’t accept anything less, and if it means we have to occasionally apologize, so be it. We are all works in progress!

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
