Let’s talk about Kim Kardashian for a second. If you’ve followed me for a while now, you are probably a bit surprised that Kim is someone I would weave into a post, and especially a post about leadership. But stay with me on this one, because I believe Kim is the perfect muse for this post.
I don’t know a lot about any of the Kardashian’s, let alone Kim, but I have my own thoughts about her. I’m guessing you do, too, regardless of how little (or a lot) we both know about her. Do you like her? Do you dislike her? Do you think of her as a fashion icon, a business woman, a reality star, a mother, Pete’s girlfriend, etc.? Who is she and what does she do? Think about the judgements we both have made about Kim Kardashian as a person. Fair or unfair, they have been made.
The truth is—we don’t know her. She is not one dimensional and nor are we, or the people we serve. She has a past and so do we. She grows every day. She doesn’t fit into a nice little box, like we’d like her to—and neither do we. Look at the people you are leading—have you put them in a box? Have you “identified” who they are OR are you looking at who they might become? When we put people in a box, they can’t grow. It’s easy to judge someone on what they’ve already done, but it’s a great leader who sees what they are capable of doing—and then treats them as such. Food for thought.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
Beth
