Yesterday, I had the privilege of being on a movie set right here in Hoboken. My cousin’s daughter (my first cousin once removed, to be exact) is one of the producers. It’s essentially a boxing movie and they were filming a scene between the boxer and his ex-wife. They have an intense conversation while they walked through a beautiful park here on Pier A, which happens to have a beautiful panorama of most of Manhattan. It was really fun to watch.
What I noticed after the director bellowed, “Action!,” and everything got set into motion like a series of well-placed dominoes, was that it wasn’t right, or perfect, or what the director was looking for—so they did it again. Take 2. After the 2nd take, the director came running out from the tent in which he was hunkered down, intensely watching the filming on probably a million dollars worth of equipment, and yelled something like, “Fabulous!” There would be no need for a Take 3.
Do you ever wish you could have a Take 2? I know I do. I would love a “do-over.” There are certain things we can’t have a Take 2, it’s water under the bridge, but there are other things that we can actually fix with our own version of Take 2. We don’t have to quit or throw in the towel, we simply need a Take 2! The beauty of acting is that “Take 2” is understood and the problem with life is that we don’t offer ourselves the same luxury as acting. Maybe today we can do just that—Take 2!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!!
