Rush Hour

On Tuesday mornings I go food shopping. It’s my routine. Sometimes I go to Trader Joe’s-Hoboken, or ACME Markets, or Whole Foods Market, but more often than not I simply go to ShopRite. This doesn’t sound like a big deal, but all my other shopping happens on foot. This is my once a week, “I’m taking the car out,” kind of shopping.

As I was driving there yesterday, I started to laugh. Honestly, I think I go a different way every time. It’s almost all one way roads to get there and therefore a million stop signs. There are cars parked on both sides of every road, so it’s like driving through the eye of needle just to go to the supermarket. It’s a lot at 8 o’clock in the morning—you’d think going food shopping would be a little simpler. But, alas, no.

But as I drove there, as if I was in a really intense game of Rush Hour (have you ever played this game?), I thought, ‘This is life.’ It’s not simple, right? There’s always maneuvering, ways we can’t go but want to, things blocking us, stop signs, etc. It always takes us longer than we think it will, too. It gets frustrating, we want to quit, but can’t. But you know what I realized on the way to Shop Rite? It’s where I want to go and it’s where I need to go. So it’s best if I simply embrace the route, take my time, and know that, in the end, it’ll all be worth it. It’s a mindset thing.

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
