“Never shrink yourself in order for others to feel good about themselves.” ~ Brad Turnbull
Last night, Doug and I attended a comedy show that was a Valentine’s Day social event held in the community lounge of our apartment building. It was fantastic! There was an open bar, good food, and really funny comedians! We laughed for 2 straight hours! It was good for the soul!
What I noticed about each comedian was how they honed in on all of the things that were “wrong” with them. They talked about being poor, being overweight, being short, selling drugs, going to jail, being unmanly, being too manly, etc. While it made for funny jokes, which was their intent, it’s not a very good habit to get into for so many reasons.
I believe I wrote this post for me today. I absolutely “shrink myself” in many conversations “to make others feel good about themselves.” Why do we do this? Maybe because it’s safe to shrink. We fear what other people will think. We fear leaving others behind. We play small so we don’t have to lose anything. But, you know what? NO MORE! We are who we are and it’s time to own this! Maybe I’m the only person who feels this way, and if so, I’m glad. That means all of you are authentically owning who you are! Well done!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
BETH
