Happy International Woman’s Day! And if you’re not a woman, I encourage you to keep reading, primarily because a woman was critical in your existence here on earth. And this post is probably not going in the direction you think it is.
I love being a woman (most of the time). I’m proud to be a woman all of the time. But I do believe, in our efforts to battle sexism, misogyny, discrimination, equal pay, etc., we have left ourselves in a position of sheer exhaustion. Many of us have taken on so much between work, home, kids, friends, philanthropy, etc., that we find ourselves depleted at the end of each day. And then we wake up, to start the good fight all over again. I hear it all the time from my female clients. I don’t think we ever meant to say, “At all costs,” but that’s where we are.
So today, if you know a woman, intentionally take something off her plate! PLEASE! Not just for today, but perhaps permanently. And if you are a woman, think of ways in which you can institute some self-care. We often don’t know how to relax anymore, especially if we have children. Exhaustion isn’t sustainable nor is it healthy. I am proud of all the women who came before us to pave the way, but I want to remind all of us that continuing to blaze the path cannot be, “At all costs.”
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!—and by “this” I mean self-care!
Beth
