Last week Doug and I were out at Indian Wells Tennis Garden watching some unbelievable tennis. We saw a lot of the best tennis players in the world who, at one point, were getting beat in their respective matches. There is one thing I have learned after years of watching tennis, the best players almost always come back to win, regardless of the deficit.
This got me thinking. Is it the mindset and skillset of the best tennis players in the world that allows them to overcome the deficit, or is it the mindset and skillset of the lesser player that fails them in their time of need? Maybe it’s a little bit of both, but we can learn from them regardless. Maria Sakkari was getting destroyed by Petra Kvitova. Down one set and getting beaten in the 2nd, she somehow managed to chip away at the lead and win the match. I honestly didn’t think it was possible, but it clearly was.
We can learn a lot from them. Let’s look at Sakkari—what was she thinking when it looked like all the chips were stacked against her? She completely believed in herself and her ability to get the job done. She had to because any other thought wouldn’t have resulted in a win. Even the smallest doubt would have worked against her. What is your challenge right now? Do you believe in yourself like Maria? Or is there a sliver of doubt? Can you wipe that doubt away and focus on your belief in yourself? I know you can! Change your thought. It’s an, “I know I can,” kind of day! Channel Maria!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
