Motivational Monday

There’s a lot of talk yesterday and today about the NCAA Women’s National Basketball Championship Final. If you watched the game, you know it was not devoid of drama. It actually has the makings of a great joke— a coach, two players, and a referee walk into a bar…! They were all a lot to take in, and in my eyes, they all managed to put a big, dark cloud over women’s basketball. It’s really unfortunate because no one is talking about the actual game.

Fast forward to Sunday Night Baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies at the Texas Rangers. No drama at all. The Phillies #2 batter, Kyle Schwarber, is at the plate. The color commentator explains that he spoke with the Phillies batting coach who said, “In all my years in baseball, I don’t think I have ever met a better teammate than Kyle.” Don’t you wish someone would say that about you? I do! He went on to say, “There are only two things Kyle wants to talk about, winning and his teammates, he never wants to talk about Kyle.” He sounds pretty awesome and he was a breath of fresh air after the women’s basketball game.

I share the juxtaposition of these athletes, hours apart, to highlight character, behavior, integrity, values, tact, and probably a whole lot more! Being justified does NOT make it right. These athletes are all on a very big stage, you and I are not, so it’s arguably more important for us because Sports Illustrated isn’t going to publicly call us out for our bad behavior. Look around, would you be OK if the world watched how you behaved at all times?

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
