Is Patience a Virtue or a Skill?

Tonight, on my Leadership Masterclass, we will be discussing patience. Can you think of anything less sexy than patience when it comes to leadership topics? Probably not, but...patience is arguably more important than its very sexy counterpart confidence. Tell me more, you ask?

I’m not going to give it all away in this post, but patience doesn’t seem important at all until you are with someone who is incredibly impatient. It’s the absence of patience that we notice more then the presence of it. Impatience is felt by everyone, not just the person who is feeling inpatient. That awful feeling has a ripple effect like no other. The German philosopher Georg W. F. Hegel said, “Impatience asks for the impossible, it wants to reach the goal without the means of getting there.”

Today, let’s think about moments when we are impatient, knowing that this is an emotion we share with everyone around us, even though they didn’t ask to participate in this feeling. Others unfortunately feel the unpleasant effects of our impatience. It breeds resentment, among other negative emotions. And if you still think patience is the non-sexy counterpart to confidence, think again.

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
