Yesterday, I had to take an Uber to Newark, NJ to attend a farewell party for our dear friend who is leaving the states and who is also Doug’s colleague. I rode in this stranger’s car, alone, for the better part of an hour. We went a way, in the beginning, that I was unfamiliar with and the neighborhoods were a bit sketchy but, all along, I trusted the process.
If I told you ten years ago that I got into a complete stranger’s car and asked him to drive me to Newark, NJ you would have thought I had gone mad. But in 2023, this is normal. It’s also why we are watching Netflix and not driving to Blockbuster any more—someone took a risk and said, “There has to be a better way.”
Although I am not asking either of us to create the next Uber or Netflix, I am asking each of us to answer this question for ourselves, “If there is a better way for me, what is it?” What do you and I need to do so that we can get what we want from work or life? It’s right there at our fingertips, we simply need to answer the question and then go do it! Look, I got in a complete stranger’s car and rode with him for over an hour to Newark, NJ—isn’t this exactly what our parents warned us not to do? Well, at least it wasn’t a white van! You can do this!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
