I joined my daughter at Hot Yoga again last night—I know I told you how terrible it was last time, but I decided to give it a second chance. The instructor started the class by asking us what one word we would like to choose for why we come to yoga. She said her word was, “Stress,” and, last night, I chose, “Calm.”
Multiple times during this grueling one-hour class, the instructor gently directed us back to our word. She didn’t tell us what to do with the word, she simply reminded us it was there for us in whatever way we needed it at any point in the journey of the class. “Calm,” settled me and relaxed me on every occasion that I called on it. It reminded me why I came to the class at all—to experience calm.
One word works, it’s crazy, but true. We’ve used it to start the year—did you pick a 2023 word? We use it to set intentions. What word would you pick today if you wanted to guide your day toward something other then, “let it be as it may,” or “what will happen will happen.” Even though I talked yesterday about being unstoppable, and I still want that for you and me, today I must tie my unstoppable to peace. Unstoppable at all costs is unhealthy. Peace decides what unstoppable will look like. I like it! Peace.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
