I know it’s not Friday, and this certainly would not be my first choice for a Friday quote, but I wanted to share it with you. Doug and I were watching The Lincoln Lawyer the other night and I heard this quote by one of the supporting cast members: “It’s like trying to turn a pickle back into a cucumber. You’re a pickle now.” – Izzy Letts
Letts and Haller (The Lincoln Lawyer) both apparently learned this quote in rehab, but I think it has important meaning for all of us. We are all pickles now—a lot has happened in our lifetime and as things change, we change. We aren’t the same person we were years ago, even if it’s only a few years. We are smarter, stronger, wiser, more successful, more confident, more aware, less fearful, more grateful, more understanding, and more. Right? But somehow, we forget. I don’t know how or why, but we do.
Today, I want both of us to think about our own self-doubt. What are we perseverating on in our head that is completely based in self-doubt? Now I want us to think about all of the “pickling” that has happened to us over the years to make us who we are today. Now repeat after me: I am SMARTER. I am WISER. I am MORE SUCCESSFUL, I am CONFIDENT, I am MORE AWARE, I am LESS FEARFUL, I am MORE GRATEFUL, I am MORE UNDERSTANDING, I am MORE! Own who you are. “Pickling” wasn’t easy and it didn’t happen overnight. Remind yourself that, “You’re a pickle now.” Own it!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
