Motivational Monday!

I spent the better part of this weekend in Camden, NJ—not something someone says very often, right? I am on the board of UrbanPromise International and this past weekend was our Summit and semi-annual in-person board meeting. I always leave these weekends absolutely inspired and motivated. I met so many amazing people who are doing so many amazing things with so little—it’s extraordinary.

One gentleman, who ultimately created Urban Promise UK along with his wife, was telling his story of how he ended up in Camden with Urban Promise. He and his wife had great jobs in London and were doing well raising their family when they felt called to serve the underprivileged community. They told their family that they were moving the the United States and he said, “Everyone thought we were crazy!” I love that line! And I love that they did not waiver from what their heart was telling them to do—crazy or not.

Sometimes listening to our heart means NOT listening to the masses and not doing what is expected of us. We are very tribal by nature, we love to do what the tribe does or expects us to do. We don’t like to make waves, it makes things easier—but it doesn’t always make us happier. Have you listened to your heart lately? What is it calling you to do? It might be much simpler than moving to another country. It might be telling you to switch jobs, or break free from a toxic relationship. It might be even simpler, it might be telling you to take French lessons or hang out with friends more. Our heart tries to speak to us every day, but we often don’t hear it because we are too busy listening to our “rational” and very “tribal” head. If you find yourself saying, “But everyone will think I am crazy,” don’t let that thought escape. Hold onto it with both hands and ask yourself, “But what if…?”

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
