“I don’t care what you think of me, unless you think I’m awesome. In which case you are right.”
~ Miss Piggy
That’s right, today I am quoting Miss Piggy—it’s a Miss Piggy kind of day.
Yesterday, I had a somewhat routine doctor’s appointment. Unbeknownst to me, they had a medical student on staff now and she came in to do the preliminary intake of why I had come to see the doctor. She was very young, I’m going to guess she was 23 or 24 years old. As she entered the room, she apologized and asked if I was okay with her asking me some question. She continued to be apologetic throughout our 10 minute or so interaction. And then the doctor entered the room, brimming with self-confidence, and rightfully so. The contradiction between the two personas was glaring.
Confidence, I believe, is more of a decision than anything else. We can decide to own who we are and why we are here, or not. I’m not suggesting a false bravado. Confidence is an individual’s trust in themselves and their ability to succeed. Confidence is a feeling—an emotional state and a state of mind. It’s the perception that you lack nothing and that you are equipped with everything you need to succeed. We all need to start with a little “Miss Piggy” self-confidence. She decided she was awesome and then told the world how to see her. Decide how you want to be seen. Trust yourself! And then channel Miss Piggy!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
