We went down to Philadelphia this weekend to meet friends and watch the University of Pennsylvania basketball team take on Harvard at the Palestra. Doug mentioned that he had always wanted to see the Palestra, so I bought him tickets for Christmas.
We arrived a little late to find the Quakers already down by 10 points and it proceeded to get substantially worse. Somewhere into the 2nd half, we decided it was such a blowout that we were going to leave. As we started to collect our things, the Quakers went on a scoring run and the place went absolutely wild—us included. It was as if they recruited a whole new team to play the last 10 minutes of the game. They were stealing balls and blocking shots, all of which had been non-existent in the first 3/4’s of the game. But in the end, the Quakers didn’t lose the game, they simply ran out of time—a wink to Vince Lombardi.
The Quakers actually did lose, so WHY am I sharing this particular story as motivation? The team playing in the beginning was NOT the team playing in the end. What happened? Where did the “new team” come from? It had to come from within! Whoever you are right now, that’s not ALL OF YOU! There’s so much more inside of you. Something switched inside of these young men and they said to themselves, “I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE (to Harvard)!!” I added the, “to Harvard,” but that’s exactly what happened. So if you think you need more money, a better education, a lucky break, or a better boss—you’re wrong. You just need you. You need to go flip that switch and demand, “I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE!”
Let’s GOOOOOO! WE GOT THIS!
