“God puts rainbows in clouds so that each of us—in the dreariest and most dreaded moments—can see a possibility of hope.” Maya Angelou
I was listening to a story Oprah Winfrey told about a very sad moment in her life. Oprah said she couldn’t stop crying, so she called her friend, Maya Angelou, to get help and hoping she might even console her through this rough time. As she was crying, Angelou said, “Stop it! Stop your crying right now and say thank you.” Oprah, still sobbing, said, “Why would I say thank you for this?” Angelou replied, “Say ‘thank you‘ because God puts a rainbow in every cloud and the rainbow is coming. Say, ‘thank you,’ even though you can’t see it, because it’s already there.”
Wow! That’s a line worth repeating: “Say ‘thank you’ even though you can’t see it because it’s already there.” Looking around at my life, I can see exactly where I can say, “thank you,” and in doing so, I feel like it makes the rainbow easier to see. And when we can see the rainbow, the cloud becomes a little less dark.
I believe all of us have clouds, some darker than others, at all times. Life is not a, “nothin’ but clue skies,” kind of journey, even though Irving Berlin said it was so. But isn’t it helpful to believe that each cloud has a rainbow—it lightens everything. Maya Angelou also said, “Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.” Ah, yes! The whole world just got lighter on that thought.
Let’s GO! It’s a RAINBOW KIND OF DAY!
