Last night I attended a yoga class with my daughter. This particular class was a scheduled fundraiser for StevensTHON – Dance Marathon at Urban Souls Hoboken. This local yoga studio graciously donated all their proceeds from this beautiful and peaceful candlelit Sunday evening class to StevensTHON—how could I not attend?
The class was wonderful, but as is the case with my mind, it started to wander. I thought about how inflexible I am. I looked at others and thought about how flexible they were. I judged myself and then others—good and bad, and then I caught myself. I thought about what I was thinking and the reality I was creating for myself. I realized quickly that I didn’t want to be thinking these thoughts and then my mind heard the yoga instructor again and she said, “What are you grateful for? Thank your body for all that it does for you every day,” and I snapped out of my judge-y thoughts! I began thinking more positive thoughts and, in doing so, created a new personal reality that was far kinder to myself and others.
Every person in that room was having their own personal reality depending on how their mind was receiving their experience. YOU create your own personal reality every day. What is your mind telling you? How is it judging EVERYTHING you see and hear? We don’t have to accept what the mind thinks, because we can think a better thought. Maybe finding what you are grateful for doesn’t help, maybe you need to ask yourself, “What is bringing me joy?” My friend shared that little gem with me recently. Remember we are in charge of what we allow our mind to think, therefore we can change our perception and our reality. Hamlet said it best, “For there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
