I was listening to a Wayne Dyer presentation yesterday via Audible as I went on a walk. Dyer passed away in 2015, but his books allow him and his wisdom to live on. If you’ve never read anything by Wayne Dyer, it’s time. He simply exudes peace and wisdom, both of which I can benefit from daily.
This particular presentation was about, “When I…”. It went something like this: “When I get into high school, when I find that special someone, when I get married, when I get the big job, when I get the promotion, when I buy the house, when I buy an even bigger house, when I have a years worth of savings, when I have two years worth of savings…then I’ll (fill in the blank—be happy? be successful? be comfortable?) You’ve said something like this in your mind, right? Me, too—like yesterday! And when I heard it on my walk, I knew Dyer would explain why this wasn’t a helpful mindset for anyone to have, and he did.
Dyer explained that the problem with, “When I…,” is that once we get the, “When I” thing, our mind goes on to the next “When I…”. It’s a vicious cycle and there is never enough. Do you remember when you said the “When I..” that is your current situation? Take today to bask in it! You did it! You’re here!! Appreciate the present moment. We will always have another, “When I…,” but it’s really important to be able to say, “I am…, right now.” “When I” never really comes, which is incredibly frustrating. “I am” is here right now! So enjoy.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
