Motivational Monday!

My daughter, who was home for spring break, asked me to join her on Saturday morning. She was headed to the gym and wanted to bring me as her guest and gym buddy. Even though torrents of rain were being violently unleashed from the sky, and we had 7 blocks to navigate to get to her gym, I said, “Of course,” albeit reluctantly.

She had a plan and I was simply along for the ride. I had about an hour to entertain myself at this massive gym until she was done. I jumped on the treadmill and started walking. I tuned into a podcast my friend, Kim, had sent me and before I knew it I had walked for 45 minutes! Devon, Kim, Mel Robbins, and the New York Sports Club of Hoboken got me dialed in to do something that was good for me, but that I really didn’t want to do! Why is this important?

I was dialed in BECAUSE there was nothing else for me to do at that gym for an hour BUT workout. There were no distractions and no forms of procrastination! Here are the things that are keeping us from having our most productive day: cell phones, internet browsing, social media, email, conversations, meetings, and breaks. Where do we need to go AND what do we need to do to get laser focused on productivity? You and I ARE the problem, but we are also the solution! What is your “New York Sports Club?” Just having my kitchen 20 feet from my desk is a problem. Leaving my phone on my desk is a problem. Here are two quick tips: Occasionally relocate yourself to a place that will force you to be more productive (you already know where that is, you just don’t want to go there!) And work exclusively on work in 25-minute increments, allowing a 5-10 minute break in between. Set a timer and make it official. This is my favorite hack!

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
