Do It For You

We did an exercise while we were at the retreat with Mette Nørgaard. She asked us to go off in small groups and define what disrupts our calm. That was such a great question and, interestingly enough, each one of us in our small group answered it a little bit differently.

Today, I am asking you to define what interrupts your calm, disrupts your peace, and changes your homeostasis. What’s disrupting it RIGHT now? Knowing changes everything—it pulls this disrupter out from the subconscious, running like a current at the bottom of a river that’s causing turmoil, but no one is really putting their finger on why they are feeling tense, to the conscious where we can actually say, “THIS is disrupting my calm and I want it to change.”

Is it the mess and the clutter? Is it someone pulling you into their storm? Is it your worry about the future? Is it conflict within the team or the family? Is it multitasking? Is it saying “Yes,” when you really meant, “Maybe,” or “Not now”? Is it an unexpected calendar event or sudden crisis? Restoring calm is an intentional choice and we can often do so simply by being aware that our calm has been disrupted. Define and restore are our actions steps today—do it for you.
