Friday’s Quote

“As important as it is to have a plan for doing work, it is perhaps more important to have a plan for rest, relaxation, self-care, and sleep.” ~ @Akiroq Brost

We are headed into Memorial Day weekend and for many of you, myself included, the last month has been quite busy, right? We did it, we made it to Memorial Day. We planned every day so that we would be so productive and that nothing would fall through the cracks, and for the most part, we executed flawlessly. But now it’s time to rest. We have a long weekend, and did either of us think about how we will use this weekend to recharge our batteries? Probably not.

Let’s take Brost’s lead and pick one from each of her categories: rest, relaxation, self-care, and sleep. What if we put each one of these restorative ideas firmly into our weekend plan just like we would if we were planning our work calendar? It’s just as important, yet we leave the weekend to kind of fall into place on it’s own—we don’t “plan” the weekend like we plan our week for obvious reasons, but I believe this kind of self-care is worth planning.

“Your ability to generate power is directly proportional to your ability to relax.” David Allen

David Allen wrote the book on Getting Things Done, so if he tells us we need to relax, then we need to relax! Most of us have 3 full days ahead of us to make some great choices that will help us “generate power” for Tuesday and beyond. Ask yourself: When will I rest? When will I relax? What self care will I absolutely do for myself? And when will I get a great night’s sleep? This can all fit into 3-days if we make a plan!
