This weekend was a “catch-up” weekend for me. I had all day Sunday and part of Monday, essentially alone, and it was incredibly productive. I had work to catch up on, but many other things as well. You know the things that weigh on your mind, like the baby gift I never bought or sent and the baby is almost 3 months old. I didn’t realize how heavy the “little things” could get until they were gone. Today, I feel lighter.
I’m sure James Clear has a great way of compiling all the little things so they get done in one lump sum, so I guess I will have to go re-read Atomic Habits. But, I’m not really talking about efficiency here, I want to highlight how weighty the small things get. We live in a world were every day has too much going on in it that our “plates” are never empty—and that’s not healthy.
Part of the answer to a never-ending full plate is the word, “No.” If you got a text or an email from me recently and I said, “I can’t take this on right now,” you understand, and some of you did. You’ve heard me say before, “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.” And as the kids say nowadays, “Protect your peace.” What I learned over the weekend is that if you need a “catch-up day” like I did, then it’s time to revisit all your yeses, and make some of them no’s.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
