I was walking my dog, Ella, yesterday, when I noticed a gentleman in front of me wearing a T-shirt that stated boldly on his back, “FINISHER.” At first, the competitor in me laughed out loud! I thought to myself, “Is this the equivalent of a participation trophy?” My mind clearly couldn’t let it go as I continued to talk to myself, “Even if I ran a marathon, I would not want “FINISHER” on my back.
As I continued past this man, my thoughts changed. I started to think about what being a FINISHER meant. Whatever the race was, he completed it—1 mile, 5k or 26.2 miles. I don’t think he won, but maybe he did. Regardless, is that the point? To be given this T-shirt means he thought about the race, signed up, trained (presumably), showed up the day of the race and ran it to it’s completion. He deserves the T-shirt, and then some!
Think of how many things we started but haven’t yet completed. Let’s see if some of these resonate: gym memberships, courses, career goals, personal goals, fitness goals, New Years resolutions, a hobby, a puzzle, etc. Did you say yes to any of these? Right, me, too. Completing a task or a goal isn’t easy, but simply being aware is HUGE! There are a number of ways for both you and I to “get one of these T-shirts,” but the easiest way is to get an accountability partner for everything you want completed. It’s free and it’s wildly effective! How’s that for a 1-2 punch?
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
