Friday’s Quote

“I’m not funny. What I am is brave.” ~ Lucille Ball

Do you know how many things could be fixed or rectified if we were brave? If you’ve ever watched Lucille Ball, you know she was funny because she wasn’t afraid to be outlandish, to look silly, or to go over the top. And you may be looking at her and thinking, “Yes, but that’s comedy. That’s an entirely different industry than my line of work. I could never do that.”

I’m going to challenge that thinking today and equate it to your industry. No one is asking you to start doing slapstick comedy at your place of employment, but we are asking you to be brave. What would brave look like for you today if you were to choose brave? Would it be speaking with your boss or challenging his or her thoughts or ideas? Would it be suggesting something new that you have thought about for so long, but have not had the courage to speak up? You know what brave is for you because you’ve mulled this idea over in your mind for a long time now—even though you haven’t had to try to keep up with candy on a runaway conveyor belt or chugged a bottle of Vegameatavitamin with a smile, pretending it’s delicious!

Today is Be Brave Friday! Lucille Ball was a huge success not because she was particularly funny, but because she was extraordinarily brave. You and I can be extraordinarily brave as well. It’s a decision. It was a decision for Lucille and it’s a decision for us now. So, how will you be brave today?
