Motivational Monday!

For as long as I can remember, I have been afraid of heights. I stood on the high dive at Princeton Pool for what seemed like an hour until I finally found the courage to jump into the pool. I cried, yes cried, when I realized my husband had made dinner reservations at Le Jules Verne in the Tour Eiffel. And on the night before our ascent to Machu Picchu, I was completely consumed by fear and didn’t sleep one single wink.

But one day I realized this fear was holding me back from experiencing a lot in this world and I decided I wasn’t going to be afraid anymore. I told myself to be brave even though I wasn’t. I planned a trip with some friends to climb to the top of The Statue of Liberty when they reopened the crown (I shared this story with you last April.) I guess my new view on heights isn’t that I am not afraid, it more like Joyce Meyer said, “Do it afraid.”

I have a brave story to share about this later this week, but I wanted to start off Monday by encouraging all of us to make a decision to “Do it afraid!” We aren’t getting anywhere special by being afraid and living in our comfort zones. Even though I told myself I wasn’t going to be afraid anymore, that isn’t exactly what happened. I am still afraid, but I’m doing it anyway! Let’s do that! Finish this sentence, “I’m afraid to …”. Let’s pick one thing to be afraid of AND “Do it afraid!”

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
