“Begin with the end in mind.” Stephen Covey
My business partner, and college roommate, repeats this quote from Covey all the time and it’s never off the mark. You will never go wrong by thinking about the ending that you are looking for before you even begin. So yesterday morning I attended a 6 am yoga class, which is a little bit of a heavy lift when it’s 7 degrees and pitch black outside, and the studio is a mile from my apartment. But this is part of my 2025 goals, so I’m committed.
As I laid on my back on my mat in the dark yoga room lit by only a few candles waiting for the instructor to begin, she started by asking all of us, “Why are you here? Why did you get up early on a Thursday morning to come here?” A few thoughts ran through my head like, “It’s one of my goals,” and “Because yoga’s good for me,” but then I somehow got complete clarity and said to myself, “I am here to get stronger.” Those words resonated with why I laid out all of my things the night before so that there was no reason I couldn’t get to this class. “I am here to get stronger.” Those words made those 60 minutes of yoga incredibly intentional. I wasn’t hoping it would go faster, I was dialed in to STRONGER.
“Begin with the end in mind.” Covey was brilliant. What is your end in mind? Yoga is arguably the simplest of “end in mind,” thoughts. What about work? What about your personal life? “Begin with the end in mind,” is asking all of us to actually know what we want! Do you know what you want or are you simply going through the motions and hoping for the best? Covey was on to something, so I encourage us to, “Begin with the end in mind.”
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
