A Touchy Subject

A Touchy Subject

I returned last night after attending a fantastic conference in England last week. One of the breakout sessions was incredibly enlightening. The speaker highlighted the power and the benefits of non-sexual touch in our incredibly touch-averse culture. And with #MeToo, I know I am toeing a fine line here.

Clearly, our skin takes up a lot of precious real estate so there must be a good reason for it. It has been scientifically proven that for long-term wellbeing, touch is just as important as food and security. Touch has been found to reduce stress, heart rate, and blood pressure. And the good news is it’s free and widely available.

Today, think about those you love the most. Could someone benefit from a hug? How about a pat on the back and a “Well done!” Or even a handshake or a high- five. In today’s incredibly stressful society, we need to be careful not to rob ourselves of the nurturing, healing and connectedness that comes through basic human touch.

With Gratitude,
Beth
