I have found the book The Prophet by Khalil Gibran peppered with so many pearls of wisdom. Yesterday’s pearl was simple: “When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”
He reminded me that joy and sorrow are inseparable. For there to be sorrow, there had to have been joy and vice versa. Although this doesn’t make sorrow any less sad, it certainly reminds us that someone or something brought us a great amount of joy first.
Sometimes it happens. Life gets hard. But during those times, perhaps Gibran’s words can serve as the much-needed comfort we are looking for, like a warm blanket on a cold winter’s night. There is a strange blessing in sorrow when you know to look for the joy.
Peace,
Beth
