Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This will be the 5th year that I have created a post about King, the most famous leader of the civil rights movement. I have talked about the “I have a dream” speech, I have posted some of his brilliant quotes, but today I am going to ask some questions.

For my 54 years, I have walked this planet as a white woman – I know nothing else. And I too want a nation where people will not be judged “by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” If my skin had been any color other than white, I’m sure my years here would have played out very differently. I can’t change that.

So today, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I am asking those who have had a very different walk than me – what do you want me to know? What can I do differently to help further King’s dream? I’m a firm believer in “when you know better you do better.” His dream was too big to not ask for some help to make it happen. And it shouldn’t just be a day off in January.
