I have been presenting monthly at Princeton University in an ongoing series and yesterday we discussed time management. Studies show we are squandering time in ways we might not even have thought of.
Multitasking is dropping our productivity by 40%. Interruptions eat up 40-60% of our time which equates to 3-5 hours per day! Poor communication is responsible for 280 lost hours each year. And this is just three areas where we lose valuable time.
To add time back to your day, first, STOP multitasking! Second, get a “Do Not Disturb” sign for your office door when you absolutely need to get work done. It takes, on average, 23 minutes to get back on track after an interruption. And very often we are responsible for our own interruptions by looking at email and texts (the average person checks email 50x and texts 77x a day). Time is precious – waste it wisely.
With Gratitude,
Beth
