Giving makes people happy. Researchers from Harvard University and the University of British Columbia found that spending money on others leads to lasting improvements in people’s overall happiness (2008 study). The act of giving stimulates the reward center in the brain — releasing endorphins and creating what is known as the The Helper’s High. I like this—giving and happiness—sounds good, right?
We are about 5 weeks away from Thanksgiving in the U.S. If you are into “lasting improvements in…overall happiness,” then I have an idea. Grab a box and start creating a Thanksgiving food donation now. If you are able, for the next five weeks, purchase 2-3 items per week in an effort to ultimately fill the box by Thanksgiving. Each week we will see our donation growing!
Planning now makes this idea a whole heck of a lot easier. This doesn’t have to be an individual idea, it could be a team effort at work. Food can be expensive and hunger is no joke. I am attaching a link that includes a Thanksgiving Food Drive Shopping List. I hope that helps. Let’s get happy!
With Gratitude,
Beth
