Friday’s Quote

“Success is fine, but success is fleeting. Significance is lasting.” ~ Beth Brooke-Marciniak

We talk about success far more often than we do significance, but simply putting the two words in the same sentence instantly illuminates the distinction. Significance has a weight and a substance to it that success does not. I’m sure, if you are like me, you have given much thought to how you could create success in your life, but how much thought have you given to creating significance? Not as much, right?

Significance doesn’t have to mean we devote all our time and money to the philanthropy of our choice. As a matter of fact, if that’s our view, I would argue we missed 90% of the opportunities for raising our significance quotient. The opportunities for significance are in front of us at home, in work, at the gas station, the local coffee house, and more. It’s all about being intentional about our significance legacy.

Here’s a tip from my friend, Drew: Always shop local if you can; these are the mom & pop shops that are struggling to make ends meet. Or my friend Eric who takes the time to get to know the person “behind the counter” that he sees every day – and then makes sure he recognizes their genuine kindness every Christmas. Significance comes in many small packages. Leave your mark. It’s your legacy, no one else’s.

P.S. We are all spending a lot of time now washing our hands, why don’t we spend that 20+ seconds thinking of how we can make our life significant every day. Leave your mark!

With Gratitude,
Beth
