We Are All In This Together

My sister, Susan, is a nurse and a hero, although she really doesn’t like us to use that word to describe her. She performs infusion therapy daily at a rheumatology center in South Jersey. On her way home from work last night, after a very long day at work, she had to stop because her tire was really low. After finding the air pump broken at the gas station, she pulled into AutoZone for help.

The manager quickly came out to help. While my sister waited, another worker came out with a make-shift mask made from a big, black plastic bag that he had wrapped around his face. Susan was incredulous that this was his means of protecting himself. My sister asked if he’d like an extra surgical mask she had in her car, but before he could answer, his boss interjected, “Yes, he would.” The next thing she saw was this AutoZone employee, fully donned in his new surgical mask, heading out on a delivery. My sister yelled, like any mother would, “Keep that on! No plastic!”

We all love a story like that. It reminds us that humanity exists and people are innately good. Everyone is saying, #WeAreAllInThisTogether, but are we? We cannot say that if we have boxes of masks in our home and we aren’t sharing. We can’t stockpile AND say we are in this together. Talk is cheap; we have to ACT! We all love random acts of kindness, and today I’m asking you to BE the random act of kindness EVERY DAY! Yup, every day! There is something we can do every day and if you can’t think of anything – call me! I’ll give you 100 things you can do. We ARE all in this together and we need all of us to be ALL IN!

With Gratitude,
Beth

PS I shared a video on Facebook about an approach I am using every day during this crisis, please check it out. I will share it via email as well.
