“The thing you fear most has no power. Your fear of it is what has the power. Facing the truth really will set you free.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

During this pandemic, all of us, in some capacity, are battling our own fears. Whether those fears emanate from the virus itself and our fear of being infected or if they are collateral and stem from fears related to our job security, our financial security, prolonged lock-down, continued restrictions, and of course, all of the the great unknowns.

Winfrey suggests that all of the aforementioned items are not what has the power, but rather the fear of them. Separating the fear from the item is step #1. Let’s use “Prolonged lock-down” as our example, assuming that can elicit some fear in all of us. What is the truth? We all know the fear, but what is the truth? The truth is we don’t really know how long it will be, but did you find yourself thinking the worst possible scenario? Yup, me too. I actually physically felt sick to my stomach. So, I’ll ask us both this: What is a better thought? What is perhaps a more realistic thought. What is the truth?

Fear is like a big, fat, ugly bully—bulldozing his way through our mind and taking over our every thought. Like any bully, we have to stand up for ourselves. We can allow fear to dominate our thoughts or we can advocate for ourselves. Surprisingly, fear will often back down quicker than you might think when we assert ourselves. So ask yourself: What is a better thought? Come on, we got this!

With Gratitude,
Beth
