Friday’s Quote

“If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit.” ~ Banksy

2020 has been a lot, to say the least. We’ve been tucked away since late February. The world, as we know it, is essentially upside down. People talk about “the new normal,” yet there is really nothing normal about it at all. It’s like a bad a dream—or at least an incredibly restrictive dream with very little room to maneuver. Maybe you’ve even asked yourself, “So what now?” I know I have.

It’s a great question, actually. So what now? We can’t travel, most of us can’t physically go to work, socializing is getting harder with winter approaching, etc. It’s as if there is no way out and no end in sight. I have found that my resistance to this “new normal” has made my “new normal” even worse. I really resent this “new normal” — A LOT! If resistance isn’t working, maybe I should try acceptance.

Here’s the truth: I am very tired of 2020, but quitting isn’t an option—resting is. In resting, I can stop resisting what is. We can’t sprint a marathon, we’ll never make the distance. Pacing is how we tackle a marathon. Resistance vs acceptance. Resting versus quitting. So what now? Now I will accept what is. I will pace myself. I will take it one day at a time. I will rest. There are many gifts within this mess, and if we slow our pace down enough and rest, we can see them. Wishing for our old times is not helpful and neither is resenting our “new normal.” Acceptance seems to go hand in hand with peace. I could use some peace right now, what about you?

With Gratitude,

Beth
