Peace, Humor, and Joy

If you have had a conversation recently with anyone outside your home, is it safe to assume you talked about either COVID or Washington, DC? As if our anxiety level wasn’t already at it’s peak, now it’s over the top. And as I have stated so many times before, I will not discuss religion or politics, but today I am going to gingerly dance around both.

Before I left the house yesterday morning, a friend had texted me to express how frightened he was about all that was going on in the U.S. right now. After tennis, my girl friend and I chatted about current events and our fears and uncertainties. By lunch time, I had really given all of it some serious thought. I also thought about my small role in the bigger picture, and for a second, I felt insignificant. Instantly, I knew I was wrong. If I am not part of the solution, then I am part of the problem.

So today, I will do my part to increase peace and I hope you’ll join me. I will spend my morning prayer time praying for peace and understanding. I will be intentional about holding conversations that focus on humor and joy. And I will table the topics of COVID and Washington, DC for a while for my own mental health and well being. We are not insignificant and what we do does matter. Peace has to start somewhere, why not with us. Spread the word.

With Gratitude,
Beth
P.S. The Lotus flower is regarded in many different cultures as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth. Interestingly, even when its roots are in the dirtiest waters, the Lotus produces the most beautiful flower.
