Yesterday, I was watching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers versus the Green Bay Packers. It was the battle of Tom Brady vs Aaron Rodgers so the passing game was a big deal. As I watched some of the passes, I marveled at what quarterbacks are capable of doing—it’s really quite extraordinary. And, believe it or not, this has a lot do with all of us.
To be a successful quarterback, one must have a vision of the future. QBs most often throw to where the receiver will be, ultimately, not where they are when they begin their throw. It’s the movement of the receiver that makes the pass successful. It gives the receiver the opportunity to get away from his defender—which is where potential failure resides. That is the sole job of the defender: stop this pass from being completed. So standing still is the kiss of death, while moving forward is how the opportunity for success is created. It isn’t guaranteed, but the possible of successes is significantly greater than standing still.
The same is true for us! Standing still is not how we succeed. We must be brave and move forward. We must try to outrun our defender (whose name is FEAR, by the way). And if you think that maybe you’ve been standing still, hoping that opportunity will find you “open,” then you need to think again. OPPORTUNITY FOR SUCCESS IS CREATED – by you. So today, you might want to plan your route. And tell your defender, Fear, he’s not going to be holding you back anymore. Let’s GO! We got this!
With Gratitude,
Beth
