“True self care is not bath salts and chocolate cake, it is making the choice to build a life you don’t need to regularly escape from.” ~Brianna Wiest
This is a rather powerful quote from someone who hasn’t yet turned 30 years old. We all know about this kind of self-care; for some of us, we practice it daily. Maybe it’s not bath salts and chocolate, maybe it’s going on a run and a glass of wine. Wiest challenges us to even look at the “good” self-care like a bath and ask, “But why do I need this?”
There’s nothing wrong with taking the time to luxuriously soak in a hot bath, and we should all be applauded for taking the time to do so, but the question we need to ask ourselves today is, “What did the bath allow me to escape from?” The answer is really important. Was it simply a bad day or was it something more chronic?
If the answer is, “Chronic,” then we just gave ourselves a great starting point to say, “Something has to change!” I don’t believe now is the time to stop the baths or the cake, but I do believe it’s time to take an honest look at our regular need to escape. We all deserve the best life, and if that means we have to do a little (soul) searching, then so be it. The goal is to be soaking in a great bath and eating the most decadent chocolate cake because we want to, not because we have to. So repeat after me: “I deserve the BEST life.“ Fabulous! Well said.
With Gratitude,
Beth
