“If you don’t like the road your walking, start paving another one.” Dolly Parton
I live across the street from a big park. Sometime in the fall of 2020, the township began paving a walkway around the perimeter of this very large park. It’s not done yet, but it’s going to be great when it’s finished for anyone who is looking to get some exercise like walkers, runners, and even cyclists. I don’t know who was responsible for envisioning this brilliant walkway, but I’m so grateful for their creative imagination.
This dreamer saw, in her mind’s eye, a path that was not there. Do you like the path you’re on right now? Or do you wish you were on a different path? Leaving the path is scary. Dostoevsky said it best when he said, “Madmen pave the path by which the reasonable people walk.” I believe he was simply implying that it’s scary to leave the beaten path.
As we head into this holiday weekend, ask yourself, “Do I like the path I am on OR am I on it simple because it’s safe?” It’s a great question to ask yourself. Maybe it’s not you that needs to ask this question, but a friend or family member. Share it with them. And remember this, it’s your road and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but they can’t walk it for you. Choose wisely.
With Gratitude,
Beth
